Si vous n’aimez pas ça, n’en dégoûtez pas les autres (If you don’t like it, dont put others off it) is a one of a kind movie that could only have been made in the 70s, when everything was an excuse to experiment. In that particular instance, a cinema crew put a bunch of young, promising actors, along with a few old timers, in a movie theater and showed them a XXX flick. The film alternates between porn scenes and the conversations of the actors about what they’re watching, porn in general and other issues. Although they’re not playing themselves but creating character parts, all of their dialogue has been improvised on the spot.
I don’t know, imagine the whole team of Saturday Night Live (or the Monty Pythons with a little help from Benny Hill) commenting a porn movie, MST3K-like (only no robots), and you’ll get an idea of what’s going on here.
Indeed, some of the actors involved have since become famous, like Josianne Balasko, Thierry Lhermitte or Gérard Jugnot, or at least respected like the always funny Romain Bouteille. Some of the funniest lines, though, are delivered by veteran comedian Pierre Doris. Of course, none of them has any sex scene. The sex is strictly on the screen, the talking strictly in the theatre.
